Great Design Advice

March 27th, 2014

When I was just starting out as a designer, I received this advice from a seasoned professional and I’ve made it one of my guiding principles when it comes to design.

Keep It Simple Stupid
I have this design that I made hanging on my office wall as a reminder.

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.”

—Charles Mingus

“Simple is hard. Easy is harder. Invisible is hardest.”

—Jean-Louis Gassée

“Truly elegant design incorporates top-notch functionality into a simple, uncluttered form.”

—David Lewis

“Simple design, intense content.”

—Edward Tufte

“Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.”

—Paul Rand
